# Installation

Download the right macOS installer, install Orbit, and open it for the first time.

## Choose your download

Orbit is available for Macs with Apple silicon or Intel processors. Open **Apple menu → About This Mac** to check which installer you need: **Chip** followed by an Apple chip name means Apple silicon; **Processor** followed by an Intel name means Intel.

1. Open the [download page](/download/).
2. Choose **Download for Apple silicon** or **Download for Intel**.
3. Wait for the `.dmg` file to finish downloading.

Orbit includes what it needs to run. You only need separate development tools for features that use them, such as Git for cloning repositories. See [Tools and runtimes](/guide/settings/runtimes/) if you plan to work with source code or dependency checks.

## Install and launch

1. Open the downloaded disk image.
2. Drag **Orbit** into **Applications**.
3. Eject the disk image.
4. Open Orbit from Applications or Spotlight.
5. If macOS asks whether to open an app downloaded from the internet, confirm **Open**.

If macOS reports that the app is damaged, cannot be verified, or is incompatible, download a fresh copy for your processor and check [troubleshooting](/guide/help/troubleshooting/). Keep macOS security protections enabled.

## First launch

The introduction walks through the workspace. Use **Next** and **Back**, or **Skip** to go directly to the app. You can revisit it through **Settings → General → Take a tour** or **Help → Take a Tour**.

Start with [your first project](/guide/getting-started/first-project/). Projects, notes, and tasks are stored locally. Provider accounts and AI connections are optional.

## Updates and uninstalling

For later releases, use [Orbit's update controls](/guide/settings/updates/).

To uninstall, quit Orbit and remove `Orbit.app` from Applications. Export your workspace first if you want to keep a portable copy. Removing the app and deleting its workspace data are separate actions; do not delete the application-support folder unless you intend to lose the workspace. Linked source folders remain where you put them.
