# Orbit — local project workspace for developers on macOS

Pick up where you left off. Orbit keeps your repositories, tasks, notes, documents, files, and links together in one local workspace on your Mac. It is made by SpacemanCodes LTD.

[Download free for macOS](/download/). Free for 3 projects, with all core features included.

## What Orbit does

- Organise projects with statuses, tags, and links to related repositories and folders.
- Keep tasks in boards and lists, write documents and scratchpad notes, and organise uploaded assets.
- Open source folders in your existing editor or terminal. Your code stays in its original location.
- Connect GitHub or GitLab to view repository activity and your project inbox.
- Inspect supported dependencies for available updates and security advisories.
- Optionally use AI to suggest tasks, documents, and links from rough notes; review suggestions before saving.
- Connect an AI client through the local MCP server to read project context, create tasks, and update documents in Orbit.

## When to use Orbit

Use Orbit when switching between development projects or returning to work you put aside: find your notes, check outstanding tasks, open related repositories, or give an AI client access to saved project context. Open linked project folders in your existing editor or terminal. Workspace content stays on the Mac; optional provider integrations and AI clients have their own network and data-sharing requirements.
