Workspace files, Finder access, backups, and richer editing
v0.2.3·
TL;DR
Added optional Finder access on macOS so Orbit’s managed workspace can appear in a chosen Finder folder and stay in sync with external edits.
Added local backups with preview, restore, and removal controls, plus retention management for saved recovery data.
Improved document and task editing with a toolbar-driven Markdown editor and clearer project/file handling across the app.
Added
Finder access
You can now choose a Finder folder for Orbit’s managed workspace, open it from Settings, reconnect it if it goes missing, or remove the link when you no longer want it.
Orbit now shows file issues in Settings and in the workspace header so you can review external changes, missing files, and folder problems from one place.
When Orbit detects changes outside the app, it can flag affected projects and let you refresh the saved files before continuing.
Backups
You can create a local backup of the workspace, review what it contains, restore from it after confirmation, or remove it when you are done.
Backup details now show how much space the saved recovery data uses and how long automatic recovery data is kept.
Editing
Documents and task descriptions now use a Markdown formatting toolbar, making it easier to add headings, links, lists, code, and other formatting.
Task cards can now be viewed first and then switched into edit mode, so reading and editing are separated more clearly.
Changed
Projects and files
Project assets and documents now handle managed workspace files as first-class items, including downloads, previews, exports, and archive creation.
Project and document management now preserves managed workspace files during deletes and updates instead of removing them immediately from disk.
Asset previews now give a clearer explanation when an image cannot be shown, and you can try the preview again from the dialog.
Settings and workspace data
The Workspace Data section now includes backup controls alongside export and import actions, and the export/import descriptions are simpler and more direct.
Finder-related preferences are now surfaced in Settings so the current link state is easy to review.
Provider connections
Repository filtering for hosted providers now makes the owner field optional for GitHub, so you can show all repositories your token can access instead of limiting the list to one owner.
Repository loading now keeps provider responses cached briefly, so repeated views reuse the latest loaded results until they expire.
Project editor polish
Project board cards and document forms now use clearer labels and actions, and several buttons were renamed to better match what they do.
The project board now makes it easier to switch between viewing and editing a card, and document navigation keeps drafts while reloading updated saved content.
Fixed
Workspace recovery and sync
Orbit now keeps managed workspace writes coordinated with recovery and reconciliation so file changes can be applied, reviewed, or rolled back without losing tracked versions.
External workspace changes are now reconciled through a dedicated review flow that lets you keep Orbit’s version, accept the external version, keep both, or restore folders from recovered data.
Interrupted file operations now leave recoverable journals behind and can be resumed instead of silently dropping tracked changes.
Project downloads and imports
Downloading or previewing an asset from a managed workspace now reads the accepted file content directly, instead of depending on a stale disk copy.
Duplicate project creation now correctly copies managed workspace files from the application’s workspace storage.
Notifications and messages
GitHub issue refresh failures now explain when the connection needs Issues read permission.
Workspace settings and file issue errors now surface clearer messages when a folder, file, or backup needs attention.
