Choose your download
Orbit is available for Macs with Apple silicon or Intel processors. Open Apple menu → About This Mac to check which installer you need: Chip followed by an Apple chip name means Apple silicon; Processor followed by an Intel name means Intel.
- Open the download page.
- Choose Download for Apple silicon or Download for Intel.
- Wait for the
.dmgfile to finish downloading.
Orbit includes what it needs to run. You only need separate development tools for features that use them, such as Git for cloning repositories. See Tools and runtimes if you plan to work with source code or dependency checks.
Install and launch
- Open the downloaded disk image.
- Drag Orbit into Applications.
- Eject the disk image.
- Open Orbit from Applications or Spotlight.
- If macOS asks whether to open an app downloaded from the internet, confirm Open.
If macOS reports that the app is damaged, cannot be verified, or is incompatible, download a fresh copy for your processor and check troubleshooting. Keep macOS security protections enabled.
First launch
The introduction walks through the workspace. Use Next and Back, or Skip to go directly to the app. You can revisit it through Settings → General → Take a tour or Help → Take a Tour.
Start with your first project. Projects, notes, and tasks are stored locally. Provider accounts and AI connections are optional.
Updates and uninstalling
For later releases, use Orbit’s update controls.
To uninstall, quit Orbit and remove Orbit.app from Applications. Export your workspace first if you want to keep a portable copy. Removing the app and deleting its workspace data are separate actions; do not delete the application-support folder unless you intend to lose the workspace. Linked source folders remain where you put them.
