Project statuses and task defaults

Customise project groups and the initial task lists used by new projects.

Project statuses organise whole projects in the sidebar. Task lists organise cards within one project. For example, a project can be “Live” while its task board still has cards in “To Do”.

Project statuses

Open Settings → Project statuses. Add or rename statuses, choose colours, and reorder them with drag handles. You can also focus a handle and use the up and down arrow keys.

The first status is the default for new projects. The saved order also controls status menus and sidebar groups. Select Save changes to apply the configuration.

Changing a project’s status does not move its cards between task lists.

Remove a status

When removing a status, choose where its existing projects should move. The usage count includes archived projects that retain an association with that status. Use Undo removal if you change your mind before saving.

Archived is built in. Use project archive and restore actions rather than trying to delete Archived as a custom status. On a revision conflict, reload settings and review your draft before retrying.

Default task columns

Open Settings → Task columns. Columns are the lists shown on a task board. Add them, edit their names and colours, reorder with handles or arrow keys, or remove one from the draft. Restore default columns restores Orbit’s defaults in the form; select Save changes to apply them.

New projects use the saved configuration. Existing projects keep their own lists and cards. To change an existing board, use its task list controls.

Example configuration

For client work, project statuses might be “Planning”, “Active”, and “Waiting”. A new-project board might start with “To do”, “Doing”, “Review”, and “Done”. Use tags for clients or subject areas that cut across these stages.

Set these defaults before creating several similar projects so each starts with the layout you want.
